Sex abuse victim in her twenties allowed euthanasia as mental health problems ‘INCURABLE’
The victim was given a lethal injection after health professionals decided her post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions were incurable. Her condition included severe anorexia, chronic depression and suicidal mood swings, tendencies to self-harm, hallucinations, obsessions and compulsions. Although the Dutch victim showed improvements after intensive therapy, she was given the right to die after doctors said treatment was hopeless.
British MPs said the case proved euthanasia should never be legalised in the UK. The woman had been abused between the age of five and 15 and had suffered from mental disorders since. It was revealed the woman had post-traumatic stress disorder that was resistant to treatment.
